One of the privileges of public service for me is that I live and work in this community -- and have the opportunity to support local businesses and non-profit organizations. I consider it a privilege to attend the many community-focused events, meet the people who make Fremont what it is, and learn more about what engages and excites us.

An accomplished attorney, she served as chief of staff to DNC chair Tom Perez, when he was the secretary of the US Department of Labor under President Barack Obama.

She is an advocate for the rights of women-which are indeed human rights-in her birth country of Afghanistan. To this end, Nahid helped sponsor the Afghan teenage girls robotics team who competed internationally. She invited the City Council to her home when the robotics team came to Fremont. What a privilege to meet these young talented students! Nahid is also a poet and I enjoyed listening to her read one of her own poems at an International Women’s Day Celebration at Niles Discovery Church.

Here pictured by sheer coincidence for the second time today are Randy Sabado and Gerry Low-Sabado whom I met for coffee this morning, now joined by Cyndy Mozzetti! Bill’s Cafe is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. M-F and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the weekends. This is the 10th location for Bill’s Cafe which started in San Jose, with the Fremont location the first in Alameda County. Welcome Bill’s Cafe to Fremont!

Drake told a moving and inspiring story about how he overcame the challenges of homelessness in his own life.

I co-chaired this event with Herb Chiu, and co-Emceed with Fremont Mayor Lily Mei. Over 330 attendees raised money for Love and Second Chances for forever homes for dogs, and our own Fremont Police Department K-9 unit.
